This morning I reported on the latest Arsenal signing of French defender Laurent Koscielny. He is a player that manager Arsene Wenger has been watching for a long time, a little like Marouane Chamakh who was signed just before the World Cup. Wenger knows his players, he can spot talent and so I have no doubt both players will be great aquisitions for the club.

Knowing Arsenal and their transfer policy I believed that would be it for the wheelings and dealings yet they are still in the news after Juventus director Giuseppe Marotta revealed that the club were willing to listen to offers for Brazilian Felipe Melo. Gazzetta Football reports that Arsenal have been targeting the midfielder and a move could see Gael Clichy move the other way.

Has Cesc Fabregas’ potential transfer to Barcelona hit the rocks? According to the Daily Mirror, the Catalan giants are in a spot of finacial bother, president Sandro Rosell has even been forced to deny they are bankrupt, after borrowing almost £120million to pay players’ wages this week.

I can see the appeal of playing for Barcelona but for Cesc Fabregas, at this point in his career, it’s not the right move. Barcelona have a plethora of midfield talent and I can see Fabregas spending a lot of time on the bench. If he stays at Arsenal he can become a legend and he can guide the club to silverware, be a leader rather than a bit-part like his performances at this years World Cup.

Wenger is right to demand high sums of money for him, he is a gifted talent and Barcelona made the mistake of making their desire to sign him public. Simple supply and demand business means you would put the price up and lets not forget Cesc is in a five year contract. He committed his future to Arsenal, he needs to respect that and follow through.

This summer spending is far from over. Arsenal need to spend big, five years without a trophy is leaving their fans restless. If they were to gain a couple of big coups then fans will have a bit more respect for the team and be given some new belief for the season ahead.

All we can do is wait and watch.
