We are now solidly into the new year, I hope all your Christmas decorations have come down and you’re ready for the first full week back at work – assuming you’re a traditional sort of worker.
So far this new year I am yet to really crack into the new years resolutions, although at football training last week I did partake in the session which was fitness based so hopefully that’s started the “Keep Fit” one, however marginally. I have enquired about guitar lessons too however at £24 for an hour I’m considering my options. I could enrol on an eight week ‘guitar for beginners’ course which would be £90 and be held in two hour sessions.
My weekend was sport full as usual. Saturday saw Arsenal host Leeds in the FA Cup, a match you’d expect Arsenal to walk and from the demeanour of the players on the pitch it looked like they all expected to walk the game too, they were lazy and didn’t look bothered at all. We were very lucky to get a draw out of the game.
I’ve not been a fan of Eboue or Bendtner, they both lost any talent they had two years ago and now they are slow and pretty worthless. Wenger should look at offloading them and at least trying to make some cash on Bendtner before he decreases in value any more. When Vela came onto the field I don’t think he touched the ball, he didn’t have any impact.
In more sport I watched some NFL, I saw as the New Orleans Saints went crashing out of the playoffs and I tried to stay awake for my team, the New York Jets, but kicking off at 1am was never going to be good for me. I managed the first quarter and woke up in the last few minutes. But we won!! Moving onto round two, against the New England Patriots. Since we beat them at the start of the season they have become really strong. This will be a tough battle.
Film news and the Green Hornet comes out this week, a film I’m keen to see which has Seth Rogen as the titular hero. Always been a fan of Rogen since Freaks and Geeks so I’m hoping he can pull off this, which has to be his most audacious role? The week after we finally get Black Swan over here, I’ve been looking forward to this for AGES.
Over the weekend I started watching Whip It, I fell asleep for most of it so will have to revisit it before I can properly review it, however it started and ended strongly. Do I have a new found respect for Ellen Page? Tough one, perhaps it was just Juno and X-Men where I found her plain. She wasn’t terrible in Inception was she?
I also completed revisiting the first season of Heroes on bluray. I haven’t seen this series since it aired. It started well, got a little slow but ended well too. I just wish that they’d actually let the bomb go off and then had the future that Peter visited come true. It was so much grittier and Matt Parkman is much better as a bad guy. Oh well.
This week will be more football with Arsenal in the Carling Cup and more NFL Playoff action at the weekend! I’ll try to do something a little more adventurous so you have something exciting to read next time. Until then…
