Episode 509 – “Namasate”
Ajiria Airways Flight 316 co-captain turns to Lapidus and mentioned he recognises Hurley in first class as a member of the Oceanic Six. He mentions he must have nerves of steel to be flying over the South Pacific again. Then there is a system failure and a flash of light, the plane goes from flying at night to flying during the day. The engines have stalled but the pilots manage to get them back up again. They’re heading straight towards a hill on the Hydra Island but Frank manages to pull up.

They hear the numbers being repeated on the radio when they spot a runway, they try to land on it but can’t stop before it ends. Frank blacks out and when he comes to he finds his co-pilot impaled on a tree branch. The survivors gather together and Lapidus tells them not to panic, to stick together and soon people will come find them. Caesar says he’s spotted some buildings and thinks they should search them. Ben wanders off and Sun follows him.

Ben catches Sun and asks her why she is following him, she wants to know where her husband is. Ben says it’s a good idea to start looking on the main island and he knows where there is a boat. They head towards it when Frank appears and asks how she can trust Ben. She has to. When they arrive at the boat, Sun knocks Ben out with an oar and her and Frank take off in the outrigger towards the main island, leaving Ben behind.

When they arrive on the main island it is dark, the jetty looks a mess and there is a rustling in the woods, the noise of the smoke monster. They enter the barracks and it is in disrepair. Whispers seem to say “hostiles” and a light turns on in one of the houses, Christian Sheppard is at the door. Sun asks if he knows her husband and he invites her to see something. He shows her the ‘New Recruit’ picture of the Dharma Initiative from 1977 and says that Sun has a long journey ahead of her.

Thirty years earlier and we pick off where we left off with Sawyer seeing Hurley, Kate and Jack for the first time. They greet each other and Sawyer drops the news that it’s 1977 and he’s part of Dharma. Jin learns they crashed on a plane and Sun was on it so Jin races off to the Flame to find Radzinsky who would know if a plane had crashed. When he gets there Radzinsky is building a geodesic dome model, the Swan station.

Meanwhile Juliet is looking for Sawyer and Miles finds him on the monitor returning home, she goes to see him and find out what is going on. Sawyer tells her Kate, Jack and Hurley have come back and he needs to figure out what to do with them. Juliet says a submarine is due in today so Sawyer sorts them out as new recruits. Juliet retrieves the sub list from Amy who is relaxing with her baby. She says she is going to call him Ethan. Sawyer brings Jack, Kate and Hurley to the barracks and tells them to follow his lead.

On the way Sawyer mentions Faraday had told them certain theories about what they could and couldn’t do in the past having travelled through time but mentions that Daniel isn’t around anymore. At the processing centre the three watch the Dharma video and Jack is inducted by Pierre Chang. He asks Jack some questions then assigns him a role, that of a workman. Phil tries to find Kate’s name on the list but she isn’t there, he starts to get suspicious when Juliet arrives and mentions she’s on her list that she picked up from Amy.

At the Flame Radzinsky can’t believe Jin thinks a plane landed on the island but when looking finds a hostile roaming their land. Jin runs to investigate and finds Sayid. As Radzinsky is there Jin must stay in character and takes Sayid captive. He calls in help from LaFleur who goes to the Flame to question Sayid. He tells him that as a hostile he must identify himself as such and then they can deal with this properly. Sayid agrees he is a hostile and Sawyer, Jin and Radzinsky takes him to the barracks.

Sayid is locked up in a cell in the barracks as Kate, Jack and Hurley watch him being taken away. Later that night Jack goes to question Sawyer about what’s going on and how he plans on getting out of this. He is greeted by Juliet who passes him onto Sawyer who is reading. Jack chastises Sawyer for reading rather than acting and Sawyer says Churchill used to read every night, even during the blitz. It helps him think and its thinking that has put them in good stead so far rather than acting like Jack used to.

Sawyer says he’ll help Sayid tomorrow like he helped Jack today but in the meantime, Jack should go home and rest. Sawyer sees Jack out and then spots Kate on her porch, they exchange a wave.

Meanwhile some food is being brought to Sayid in his cell by a young boy. It is revealed to be young Benjamin Linus.

Not many huge reveals this week, episode was quite mellow from what I was expecting, but not too bad. Why are Sayid, Jack, Kate and Hurley in 1977 compared to Sun, Ben, Locke and Lapidus in 2008? Why were the numbers playing over the plane’s radio when that signal was turned off? Why has young Ben Linus got emo/rock hair all of a sudden?

How will Kate deal with being second fiddle to Juliet? Sawyer has fallen on his feet there, he’s got a beautiful woman who is also deadly, stay with Juliet rather than Kate Sawyer! Be good.

Jack is as annoying as ever, my goodness Jack just deal with it. You wanted to be back on the island, now you’re there you expect to run everything? You can’t just step up, take your workman role and embrace it until you can get to your own timeline.

In a sort of spoiler, it has been revealed that the season finale will be called “The Incident”…I wonder what that means? Hehe…
