West Ham United have sacked manager Gianfranco Zola. After they finished ninth last season a poor run this year saw them finish one space off the drop zone with only a five point cushion.
I’m not surprised, Zola is a nice guy but he’s had no previous managerial experience at club level so was always going to struggle. I don’t know where West Ham expect to go from here, whoever takes over will struggle to take the team anywhere forward and new owner David Sullivans plans to move the team to the Olympic Stadium seems overly optimistic.
A statement from West Ham read: “West Ham United confirm that they have terminated the contract of Gianfranco Zola.
“The Board of Directors would like to thank him for his contribution and wish him well for the future.
“The club will now be focusing its efforts on seeking a replacement.
“The club will be making no further comment on this matter.”
