Top entertainment executives fear that the current economic climate could spell disaster for High Definition DVD. Due to the high cost of next generation home entertainment companies worry that it has priced itself out of the market and the brands will seriously underperform this holiday season. The industry spoke at the recent HD3 Conference in the US.

“The economy is the biggest challenge, because there are just so many pieces to the Blu-ray puzzle that consumers face,” Disney’s general manager of domestic home-entertainment Lori MacPherson stated. “You need the high-definition television set, you need the player, you need the cables, you need the software.”

You can’t be serious? Not after I’ve just bought a Blu-Ray Player…
