Episode 218 – “Dave”
Hurley and Libby are getting a bit closer and when the topic of his weight comes up, Hurley confides in Libby that he has a secret stash. Libby asks Hurley if he wants to change, he does and so they destroy the stash. Then the losties come running through the jungle excited, something has been found. It’s the food drop. Here Hurley sees someone he recognises and chases him through the jungle but only comes away with a slipper.

Hurley keeps getting visions of this man who is revealed as Dave. In flashbacks we see Hurley at Santa Rosa, he is talking to his doctor who believes Dave is a bad influence on him. On the doctors wall is a picture of a tranquil island. They talk about the “accident” where Hurley stepped onto a deck that collapsed under his weight and killed two people but Dave believes the doctor is just trying to keep Hurley locked up. He tells Hurley they’re busting out of Santa Rosa and not to take the pills. The doctor arrives and takes a picture of them both.

Later it is revealed that Dave is in Hurley’s imagination but Dave says that the image must have been photoshopped. They sneak through the hospital late one night and Dave leaves through a window, Hurley closes the window behind him and says he isn’t leaving.

Back on the island and Dave is once again causing trouble. He tells Hurley that he’s still in Santa Rosa, that the island is all in his head, that once Dave left Hurley’s brain exploded and he fell into a coma. Dave admits this version of him is imaginary, but that’s because he’s the part of Hurley that wants to wake up. The only way he can wake up and get out of the coma is by killing himself. Dave jumps off a cliff and expects Hurley to follow but Libby turns up and convinces him he’s not crazy. They kiss.

Meanwhile Sayid and Ana Lucia are questioning Henry but he’s not giving any answers and the ones he does give are wrong. Locke wants to chat with him so Ana Lucia reluctantly lets him. Henry tells John that he never pressed the button and nothing happened.
