We had a slight lay in this morning, our first fastpass reservation wasn’t until after 10am. We had breakfast onsite again, egg flatbread wrap for us both and then headed out to Animal Kingdom. We hit traffic, lots of traffic and were queuing for a while to get into the park. By the time we got into Animal Kingdom, it was nearly time to head to the River Rapids but first we went on the Kilimanjaro Safari.
The ride was very bumpy and there wasn’t much time spent looking at the animals but we saw some Zebras, Monkeys, the mane of a lion, hippos, white rhinos and elephants. The safari guide was inaudible which made the experience a little less interesting but we only needed to see the animals really. After that, it was time to head to the Rapids, unfortunately, we lost our ponchos earlier in the week, so had to fork out Disney prices for two more.
The Rapids were very tame, we didn’t get too wet and if it wasn’t for the other patrons on the bridge pressing the button to shower riders, probably wouldn’t have had more than a couple of splashes on us. After the Rapids it was time to tackle Expedition Everest. Neither of us had been on this before so didn’t know what to expect. The opening roll was quite pleasant and the thrill part was entertaining although Debora almost lost her head between the seat rests.
Entering Dino-Land we rode the Primeval Whirl which was a really tight squeeze and the sharp corners were extremely painful! After we took a break from the heat of the sun with Finding Nemo – The Musical. With all the tripe on broadway, I’m surprised this hasn’t made it there – maybe it has? The songs weren’t memorable toe-tappers but the staging and puppets were excellent.
Our final FastPass was for the Dinosaur ride, another bumpy journey back in time to see some monsters of the past. Introduced by Hodges from CSI, we were hoping for a sneak appearance from Grissom, but no luck. The dinosaur scare at the end was quite frightening – this coming from someone who does jump at the Dementors on Forbidden Journey – although the ride photo shows both Debora and I laughing and smiling at it.
We called it a day at Animal Kingdom and headed off to Downtown Disney for a bite to eat and explore the shops. We bought Debora some more pins for her collection and I looked for a new T-Shirt, tempted by a couple of Disney ones and a Hydra one. Downtown Disney is still under construction in a lot of places so there are a lot of boards up blocking some of the views, but if the drawings are anything to go by, it’ll look beautiful when complete.
Back at the hotel before 7 today, had a pizza and will be getting an early night ready for early park admission to Islands of Adventure tomorrow. Although today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Hogwarts, it will be tomorrow we pay our respects.
